Things I'm Diggin' Part 3

Sharing some of my current favorite things...

My cousin-in-law gifted this to me shortly after Liam was born. Her friend owns the Wisconsin-born company and hand crafts each product in small batches with pure ingredients. I've had this oil for 5 years and it still hasn't run out! It's made with 100% pure rice bran oil, ylang ylang, geranium, lavender, grapefruit, clary sage, fennel, palmarosa and wild orange. It smells amazing and I use it whenever I feel STRESSED or want a little scent on my wrists.

Anyone who knows me well knows that I'm a huge fan of local store Olivu 426. I've tried out MANY of their products and love a lot of them. But this one is my go-to when I just need a pick-me-up. If I'm feeling stressed or tired I spritz this on my face and neck and I get an instant refresh. And it has a pleasant rose water scent.

I bought this one on a whim on my way to the checkout counter at Ulta one day. I'm a sucker for anything coconut or vanilla. And this one, when I smelled it, took me right to the beach! Some coconut scents smell fake to me, but this one smells just like fresh coconut-milk-out-of-a-coconut. It's not thick like a lotion, it just glides on more like water and leaves a light coconut scent and soft skin.

I'm convinced that EVERY mom, dad, grandparent, daycare teacher and caregiver should own one of these! I found it at a local kitchen store and have loved it since. You just pop the grape or olive or tomato into the hole, push the green stick down and BOOM you have a quartered grape, etc. It's pretty safe too - I let Liam use it with my observation.

I bought these at a local kitchen store as well and love them. The package comes with four different sizes. I store them in a cupboard above our microwave for easy use. They lie flat and don't warp or curve or stain and they're dishwasher safe. Also important - they're BPA free and FDA approved.

Ceramic Berry Baskets
I'm a ceramic berry basket dork! I love them. Because they're PRETTY and I can display an ordinary thing (fruit) in a pretty way. I got mine as a Christmas gift a couple of years ago and have since gifted them to other people. They can be hard to find at actual stores (although I have seen/bought them at Pier 1, Crate & Barrel and HomeGoods). Online is your best bet.

Fizzy Chill Red wine-in-a-can
I love a glass of wine or champagne after the kids are in bed. But I do not want to open an entire bottle of champ or wine and let the rest go to waste (I'm not a fan of corking wine or champagne). So these work out perfectly for me! I found this Fizzy Chill Red, which I drink cold. It's a sweeter, fizzy wine that's a nice little treat at the end of the day.

Mini Korbel Brut champagne bottles
I pour myself one of these on occasion too. And no wasted champagne afterwards!

Calling all parents/grandparents: you need to let your kids try these. Completely mess-free coloring, other than a few water drips here and there. Perfect for the CAR, for restaurants, in the church pew, on an airplane. And it keeps them occupied for a while.

My kids love this thing. We've had it a couple of years and we play with it at least once a week. We got this one at Target. A great gift idea as well.

Love, love, love these. They get played with EVERY day in our house by both kids. They're expensive but some things in life are just worth it! My kids will spend a good hour at a time playing with these. The only downside is that they end up everywhere!

A friend suggested that I use this after I told her I have thousands of emails in my inbox (eek). I signed up and it significantly helped lighten my inbox. This is FREE to use and really easy to sign up. If you're someone that gets lots of emails, I highly suggest you try this out!

I'm a granola snob. I'm picky about the texture and flavor. I've never eaten a granola like this one before and I LOVE it. Chloe loves it too! It's not giant, chunky, hard bites (not a fan) - instead it's these light, crunchy bean crisps that pair so good with the almonds and cranberries and seeds and yum-o maple syrup tossed in with it all. We like to eat it dry as a healthy snack. Heading to my cupboard now....

Things I'm Diggin' Part 2

I shared a post a few months ago with some of my favorite things. I got feedback from friends and family that they liked seeing what products other people like, so I thought I'd share another one.

Here are a few totally random products I'm diggin' lately:

I bought one for our master bathroom. Then I bought one for our kitchen. And I'm pretty sure I'll be getting one for our guest bathroom sometime soon.  Cute and easy to use. Win-win.

We've tried numerous floor cleaners on our kitchen's hardwood floors, and this is the only one I've found that smells good (like citrus instead of yucky cleaner), cleans really well AND does not leave a residue on the darn floor! It's also non-toxic and plant based, so that makes me love it even more.

Yum. Yum. Yum. Yum. Yum. That's it.

Wool Dryer Balls, found on Etsy here
I pretty much despise dryer sheets (I don't like the smell, the chemicals). I haven't used them in years. So these natural dryer balls, which are hand-felted and have no dyes or chemicals added, work AWESOME to help keep our laundry fluffy. The only downfall is that they sometimes get lost amongst the bedsheets. But I'll take lost balls over dryer-sheet-smelly shirts any day :)

Boots Botanics Micellar 3 In 1 Cleansing Solution, bought at Target
I trio this with my Botanics 100% Organic Facial Oil and Botanics Cleansing Foam Wash. When I want to 'freshen' my face during the day I'll apply it to my face quick and let it air dry. Then at night when I'm lazy I use it to remove eye/face makeup, let it air dry and then finish with the facial oil. I love that it's easy, smells good & is fine for my sensitive skin.

Braun Thermoscan Forehead Thermometer
We bought a different thermometer - the Braun Thermoscan Ear Thermometer - after Liam was born and it has worked great. But Chloe does NOT let us get near her ears to stick it in, so we just invested in the forehead one (at $50) and it's been great so far! It's easy to use, accurate and it keeps Chloe happy(ish).

And last but not least...the sweet treat that keeps me sane going during the month of October...

Russell Stover Caramel & Marshmallow Pumpkins
Also shaped like eggs during Easter and shaped liked Santa during Christmas :) :) :) I pretty much can't sum up anything better than a) milk chocolate b) caramel and c) marshmallow all in one little nugget. I can't leave Walgreen's without handful of these babies. Who else is obsessed with these?

Have a nice weekend!

My Favorite Time-Sucking Websites

Late in the evening, after the kids are bathed & finally asleep and Matt is settled on the couch watching a movie, I often retreat to our cozy bed with the iPad. I go through a nightly Internet routine: I check my email, peruse Facebook, pin a few things on Pinterest (instant gratification!) and read the newest entries on my favorite blogs (there are like 15 of them).

If I still feel 'awake enough' after my Internet routine, I check out some other websites that are my go-to's. I love, love, love science and like to keep learning all of the time, so all of these sites involve science, weird news or nerdy stuff!

So...if you're really into checking out websites that involve interesting science-type/oddball stuff, then you may want to check some of these out if you have not already! But beware - they are all a bit addictive once you start perusing through them.

Here are my Top 5 Favorite Time-Sucking Science/Oddball Websites:

Site: Messy Nessy Chic

Why I think it's cool: There's always something interesting to learn from this site. There are intriguing photographs from abandoned buildings, cafes around the world and secret swimming pools. Stories about a secret atomic city, a lady with a pet lion and art deco cinemas. And the author's posts called 13 Things I Found On The Internet Today are simply the best!

Site: Daily Overview

Why I think it's cool: Every day, on this site's Feed, you can view a new photo of Earth from up above. Whether it's a photo of farm fields, a cramped city center or a road interchange, the photos are simply stunning, some beautiful and some devastating.

Site: IFLScience
Why I think it's cool: This site keeps me up-to-date on all of the latest science news. Without it I would have no clue how MUCH we're learning about outer space right now! And that scientists are getting closer to understanding what might be causing Alzheimer's, that an ocean-cleaning system will be launched in 2016, and that there's now Google Underwater Street View for the oceans. Who knew!

Twisted Sifter

Why I think it's cool: It's just an interesting site. It's feed is filled with cool videos, photography and interesting stories based on art, science, travel and architecture. Once you start scrolling down it's hard to stop...

Site: Listverse

Why I think it's cool: A lot of the Top 10 lists on this site are flat-out bizarre. I wonder sometimes if all of the information is correct (so I take some of the lists with a grain of salt), but it's still fun to peruse through. This is another one that's hard to stop scrolling once you start. Top 10 Explanations For UFOs anyone?

I hope I gave you some great ideas on how to waste your time!

Are there are any time-sucking sites that you thoroughly enjoy??? Please let me know!

Things I'm Diggin' Part 1

Some completely random things I've been diggin' lately....

Why I love it:
It isn't full of fake crap. It's ingredients are nonfat milk, heavy cream, sugar and natural flavor. It tastes good. And it's not so overpowering that you can't taste the coffee too.

Trumpette socks for babies
Why I love them:
They ACTUALLY stay on Chloe's feet! These (and Old Navy's) are the only socks that Liam, and now Chloe, seem to keep on their feet. Like all day on their feet. It's a miracle.

Why I love them:
Chloe loves them, Liam loved them. I give her a rusk and it keeps her happy for ten minutes. She eats the entire thing and they are NOT messy (especially compared to the Plum Organics Little Yums - which are so, so messy). No artificial colors or preservatives. Just rice/potato starch/sugar/sea salt. And you can buy them at Target.

Why I love it:
(It's pricey) but it does not clump at all! Every mascara I've ever bought eventually clumps. And because I've recently developed contact dermatitis from many cosmetics, this one does not cause me to have a reaction! It goes on great/stays on great. It's non-toxic and it doesn't smell.

 Why I love it:
It's so much fun! I picked up some packages at HobLob recently and have been messing around making some things with it. It's so easy to use and the colors are great. It feels good to get my hands on some art supplies again...

Why I love them:
They're so soft. They're fun. They're thin, which is nice for Springtime. And the Shea lasts within the socks for up to 25 washes in the machine. I bought this exact pair for myself for Valentine's Day :)

Why I love it:
It tastes really darn good. It tastes like actual home-made lemonade. And it's not too citrusy where you get a stomachache or heartburn afterwards. It's not too sweet & not too sour. For me it's just right. And the ingredients are water/sugar/lemon juice/lemon pulp & lemon oil. That's it. It tastes good with vodka in it too.

Why I love it:
I swear by this stuff! It is my new miracle product. It's inexpensive ($8 at Target and it lasts a few months), smells good, feels good, works good. It's organic and packed full of essential oils. It's another product I've found that's completely okay for my face and skin (it does not cause dermatitis). I'm going to start giving this to people as gifts!

Why I love it:
I love maple-anything, so this is a delicious yogurt to me. It's a 'runny' style yogurt, which I prefer over the thick stuff. The cows' milk the yogurt is made of comes from happy cows (grazing, open air milking, grass fed) and the ingredients are simple whole milk/organic agave nectar/maple syrup/ginger/cultures. It's more expensive than Yoplait, but I think it's worth the flavor and ingredients. And I think it tastes great on top of waffles or with oatmeal & dates. Liam loves it too.

Why I love it:
The songs are upbeat and it's hard not to move around when you hear it.  And if you don't agree, then I guess 'haters gonna hate.'  Liam, Chloe and I play this album almost every day and we dance, dance, dance.

Okay -- so what are you diggin' lately?
Please share!

Beauty products I'm loving lately

My beauty regimen has been pretty boring (and sometimes non-existent) lately.

On a day when the kids & I don't leave the house at all, I try to brush my teeth, apply some deodorant and pull my hair into a ponytail sometime before noon. On many days it is not before noon.

If I do leave the house with the kids (on a run to the grocery store or Target or the library) then I'll add a couple of extra steps -- I'll moisturize my face and put some mascara on. The one thing I NEVER leave the house with is mascara. I'd leave without a bra or shoes before I leave without my mascara. And if the mascara doesn't make it onto my eyelashes, then sunglasses it is.

When I leave the house for a "real" outing (such as on a date with Matt or to a friends house) then I may actually blow dry and straighten my hair! And add some eyeshadow and lip gloss.

Time for pampering & beautifying is slim these days, so I tend to use the most beauty products when I take a shower. It's my little '5 minute retreat' to relax.

I thought I'd share a few of my favorite beauty products at the moment. Ones that are quick, easy and never seem to fail me. I think it's important that we share this stuff with each other! Otherwise we end up buying a ton of expensive products that we use once, we don't like and then end up in back of the medicine cabinet until the year 2024....

This Heel Stix product from a Sheboygan store called Olivu is amazing. I have those
post-summer-I wore flip flops too much-heels going on.  I scrub my heels in the shower with a foot scrubby thing and then apply this afterwards. It smells good, feels good
and after a week of use I could tell a HUGE difference.

I love coconut scented products. But a lot of them smell 'fake coconut' to me. Well this shampoo
and conditioner from OGX smell so, so good! When I'm scrubbing my head with this stuff I close my eyes and smell the coconut and imagine myself on a tropical island....then I hear a kid screaming in the background and I snap back into reality. But for a moment it works.

I love this Raw Shea Butter Wash by Shea Moisture. It's great for my sensitive skin. It's organic, I can understand the ingredient list and it smells good too. It's one of the first products I've used that doesn't seem to make my skin freak out.

Oh my gosh. I love this! I got it as a gift from my cousin-in-law Beth. It's Nursing Nipple Salve from
WILDROOTS and it works wonders. It's all natural, smells AMAZING, doesn't bother Chloe at all and really, truly works. I will be gifting this to all new moms I know in the future. It's that good.

I had been slacking in the 'eyebrow' department lately. But I recently did a much-needed
plucking and a little coat of this clear mascara by Cover Girl helps keep the strays tamed.

Dark under eye bags anyone? I'm usually pretty skeptical of age-rewind type stuff. But the foam tip
on this thing applies the concealer and I swear it covers some of the wrinkles. I had to try it to believe it.

What I used for my recent eyebrow plucking. I highly recommend this Tweezerman that you can
get for cheap at Walgreens. And the pink color makes tweezing slightly more bearable.

I've been a fan of this for a long time. And with the Winter months rapidly approaching, this Smoothing Serum from Aveda works wonders on the bottom half of my hair. It tames & smoothes out the dry and unruly ends.

Everyone who knows me knows that I'm obsessed with all things turquoise/mint/aqua/blue. This polish by Maybelline is my latest toenail color. It reminds me of the Caribbean.
The color is called Green With Envy.

What are your favorite beauty products as of lately?

I love blogs

I'll admit it. I'm a bit of a blog stalker. When I come across a blog that I really like, I follow it on a weekly (sometimes daily) basis. Some of the blogs I follow are mommy/family blogs, some are home decorating blogs and some are foodie blogs. Some are funny and some are inspiring. No matter what the blog topic may be, there are certain ones that just stand out to me and I really enjoy them.

After all....the reason I started my own blog was because I felt inspired by some of the blogs I currently follow. I thought it was interesting to get a glimpse into other mothers' lives, into other peoples' homes (a little creepy, I know) and check out new recipes and home decorating ideas.

The blogs that I enjoy have definitely changed over time. Sometimes I lose interest in one and decide not to read it anymore. And sometimes I come across a brand new blog to follow, one that I wish I had found years ago.

I thought I'd share my current favorite blogs. The ones that I stalk! I think they're worth sharing because A) they are sources of creativity and inspiration and connection (a connection to other moms and families) and B) I just think it's nice to spread the word about fellow bloggers! If I can help other bloggers get some more followers, then that puts a smile on my face and theirs :)

None of these bloggers asked me to list their blog here or give opinions. All opinions are totally my own.

So here it goes...

Here are my current favorite mom & family blogs...

Mom to FIVE children and photographer, Ashley Ann blogs about life, family, creativity and photography. Her family is beautiful, her writing is inspiring and her photography is simply amazing.

Mom to three adorable children, blogger Amy shares snippets of her family and home. I like her style and she has a seriously contagious smile!

I follow this blog the most! Blogger Katie is a mom to two boys with another boy due any day! She is full of creativity, constantly doing cool stuff to her home and isn't afraid to try new things. She's funny, honest and has made a beautiful home for her and her family.

I just discovered this blog within the last few weeks and I fell in love. It's just funny. Blogger Teri posts a lot of random things about babies and pregnancy and life that are of interest and use to me. As a mom myself, it makes me feel like I am not alone!

I've been following this blog for a few years now. Blogger Sara is the real reason I started my own blog! I've just found so much inspiration over the years while reading her blog. She's full of life and love and isn't afraid to share anything. Her photography is cool, her three girls are beautiful and she always has something interesting to share. A true nesting gypsy she is.

Mom to an adorable little boy, blogger Jessica is one of the most honest bloggers out there.
She is a "hopeless encourager" as she calls herself. Her and her little boy are always on a mission to make others' people days and she shares the stories on her blog. This woman is honest, cool and creative. She also has an Etsy page where she sells some cool crocheted goods

A mom of two, Amy is funny and honest. This is another pregnancy/mom site that reassures me that I am not alone!

Here are some of my current favorite home decorating blogs...

I like Kelly's style. She gives great vintage decorating tips & also posts a lot of "home tours" which let you see inside other peoples' cool, eclectic homes. I consider my decorating style to be a bit "eclectic" which is why I was drawn to her blog.

Look at the title of this blog. Need I say more? I am obsessed with the color turquoise (and teals and blues and greens) so looking at this blog is about equal to eating a Snickers bar to me! Blogger Erin posts photos of amazing turquoise-inspired homes almost every day. Eye candy.

This is a cool creative living site by blogger Holly. Food and flowers and home ideas, oh my! Her topics and ideas are fun and fresh. She keeps me in the loop with what's "cool" at the moment :)

If you're looking for remodeling or crafting ideas, this is a great resource. Blogger Cassity shares great do-it-yourself projects that are actually doable!

Another nice do-it-yourself kind of blog. Krista shares great tips on how to make your house happy :)

Some of my favorite creative blogs...

Mom and blogger Sarah takes you inside her home and shares bits of her family life and her fresh, simple style.

I wish I were friends with this girl! Blogger Natalie shares stories of her family & home and is full of creative inspiration (she has an Etsy shop). Her blog is filled with beautiful photos and it encourages me to want to live more simply.

I came across Sarah's blog when my Crafty Club re-created one of her crafts (an eggs-in-a-nest necklace which she sells on her Etsy page). She has a beautiful family and posts the most incredible photos on her blog.

And my current favorite foodie blogs...

I just love the recipes that blogger Sarah posts. I've tried numerous recipes from her blog and they've all been successful.

Blogger Nikki posts super yummy recipes, but also posts about random other things (life, fashion, trends) that I also find interesting.

I recently started following this blog. Bloggers Teri and Jenny share great recipes and the photographs are funky & fresh to look at.

I hope you enjoy at least one of the blogs as much as I do. As I said earlier, I love to check out (and stalk) new blogs! So please tell me, what are your favorite lifestyle/food/home/mommy blogs? I would love to hear from you.  Please share with me by commenting in the "Post A Comment" spot below!
