This is how we (st)roll

Liam and I went for a lot of stroller walks the past two summers. Usually once a day, and sometimes twice, depending on the weather. When Liam was a baby (two summers ago) and a toddler (last summer) it was easy for me to just throw him (not literally) into the stroller and away we went.

But now that Chloe's here it takes a little more effort to go for a stroll. Liam climbs into the jogging stroller himself and Chloe goes in the Baby Bjorn or sling. Both kids are comfortable and I feel good knowing that they're safe (Liam can't run into the street and Chloe is snuggled up to her mama). But I often feel frazzled right before we leave, wondering if I have everything that I may need for the kids along the way. Do I have enough Kleenex along to wipe Liam's nose every few minutes? Do I have Band aids in case Liam hurts himself at the park? Do I have bug repellent in case we're attacked by mosquitoes?

I've always had a) sunscreen b) my iPhone and c) some cash (in case we come across a rummage sale or lemonade stand or stop at a neighborhood store) in the stroller at all times. But what about the other stuff we may need?

Well, now I don't have to worry about the 'what it' stuff anymore because I put together a little stroller kit for myself. Stuff that I can just leave in the stroller. Then all I have to grab when we go for a walk is my iPhone (and the kiddos).

I bought this plastic storage case at Target.
Liam has been playing with it the last few weeks.
He puts toys in it and calls it his 'suitcase.'

Wipes, hand sanitizer (for Liam's hands after we collect things on the beach) and tissues.

Bug repellent, Advil (for me) and lotion.

Chap stick, band aids and extra hair stuff.

I put first-aid items in one of the (many) empty pacifier cases we had laying around.

This is important! Our flip video.

Here it is, my stroller kit.

If anyone wants me to make one of these for them, let me know! I'd be happy to put one together for you. Not a bad gift idea either, maybe to give along with a stroller? Or as a 'new mom' gift? Just sayin'....

Spring is happening

A telltale sign that spring/summer is finally here in Wisconsin? Most of this past week's activities took place outside! Here are some things that brought a smile to my face this week....

Food truck night. I love that the food trucks are only a few blocks from
our house every Monday evening.

The lake. I never get sick of walking by the lake. Or as Liam calls it, "the ocean."

Drinks with my girlfriends. Empty margarita glasses. Mission accomplished!

Liam loving his sister.

Lilacs in our yard.

Liam sporting his new sunglasses.

My grandma holding Chloe.

 My mom holding Chloe.

A bowl of much-needed ice cream. (my butt disagrees)

A family stroll around the neighborhood.

A (finally) completed stack of Chloe's birth announcements & thank yous.

Have a peaceful week :)

Things that made me smile this week

Liam had a fever for half of the week (poor kiddo). We ventured out a few quick times (to the library, to TJ Maxx and to his toddler art class), but the rest of the time was spent at home resting and watching kid movies. His Nana visited for a couple of days too, so that allowed me some time to run errands on my own.

Here's a quick little post about things that made me smile this past week, despite having a sick child. All photos were taken via my iPhone.

As you can see, Liam and Matt pretty much account for 90% of the smiles generated in my life:

Last Sunday Liam went "big boy" sledding for the first time at my mom's house.
(socks over his mittens is the only way we could keep the darn things on!)

And squeezed through a snow tunnel.

He insisted on eating breakfast in his new hat.

And helped me "vacuum" the living room.

My loving hubby brought me home some bright flowers, just because.

Liam LOVED his art class again this week. Here he is,
creating different textures on his painting using combs.

See this brownish/barfy green stuff peeking out behind the white stuff?
It's something called GRASS!! I haven't seen this in a very long time.
Hopefully someday very soon it will turn green :)

We actually got outside for a walk because the temperature was
above freezing! We strolled on down to the winter farmers' market.

The sun was shining into our windows! Simple as that.

Liam picked out some really good books from the library this time.
These are my top 3 out of the ones we brought home.

I invested in my first pair of Toms :)
Now the snow just needs to go away so I can wear them.

And the biggest smile of the week was....
Liam started sleeping in his new big boy room and big boy bed! No more crib for him!
He has slept overnight and taken naps successfully in his twin bed for five days already!
Here he is, laying next to his deer friend.

And here's my belly (that big 'ol grey & black polka dot thing you see below) next to Liam.
To think that baby #2 and Liam are sleeping right next to each other in this photo and neither of
them know it is pretty cool to me. I have high hopes that someday, when baby #2 is out of the womb, that they'll be able to rest next to each other this peacefully again :)

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Love,
Erin

Just beachy

Liam and I strolled on down to the lake today. We packed up the stroller with sand toys, bottles of water and snacks. We prefer going to our "secret beach" as we call it because there is barely ever anyone on the entire beach! You'll see an occasional dog walker or some middle school boys doing who-knows-what, but that's about it. It's hard to find a place to get onto this beach because it's surrounded by woods and a steep bluff rises above it, so it stays pretty secluded. But we've found our way to access it! When we get to the bluff with the stroller we bike-lock it to a fence and carry Liam/chairs/etc down a steep trail to the beach.

I cannot even describe how much Liam LOVED the beach today! From the second I set him down by the water it was go-go-go for him! The water isn't even that warm, but he didn't care. At one point he walked out into the water a little too far and a wave sucked him in and onto his tummy (yikes). But no worries...super mom came to the rescue :) He didn't even seem to mind! He just spit out the water and giggled a bit, and kept on keepin' on. What a trooper he is!

Looking at the ducks...

Picking up rocks and throwing them into the lake...
Picking up rocks and throwing them into the lake...
Picking up rocks and.....you get the picture!

More rock exploration...

Investigating the green slime stuff....luckily he didn't try to taste it :)

My cutie's sandy little feet...

Snack break!
"Would you like a little applesauce with your sand?"

Okay - here is MY favorite part of our beach day (other than my amazingly cute little boy splashing in the water of course) - beach glass!! I just love beach combing. And finding beach glass is like an added bonus! I found ten pieces, which I think is pretty good. I'm excited to add it to our beach glass collection (yeah, I know, totally dorky).

Liam got a nice warm bath the second he got home. He had sand in places I won't even mention....eek. He skipped lunch and went right down for a nap :) Mama likes the beach.

And one more quick photo.
The Italian Zucchini I harvested from our garden last night:

Busy bodies

This past weekend was filled with many things.

On Friday night we did a little yard work, had some friends over for pizza and drinks, and then just Matt and I watched a movie once Liam was in bed. The movie we watched was The Host and I actually thought it was pretty good. Has anyone else seen this movie? What did you think of it?

On Saturday we attended the John Michael Kohler Arts Center Midsummer Festival of the Arts. And we purchased a painting from an amazing artist from Milwaukee. It's already hanging above our fireplace and we're in love with it. Matt and I bought it for each other for our anniversary :) Then we went to our friend's daughter's birthday party in the afternoon. Liam had fun bouncing around with the kids. Later in the evening Matt and I went to Stefano's for dinner to celebrate our 6-year wedding anniversary.

On Sunday we went to Kohler-Andrae State Park for a hike in the dunes and a walk on the beach with Liam. Phew! What a busy weekend.

And on Tuesday and Wednesday Liam and I took a little road trip to my mom's house and Matt's parents' house. Liam had a blast playing with his cousin Rylan at my mom's house :)

Here are a few photos of all of the above:

The painting we got for our anniversary :) It's a grouping of birch trees by artist Vicki Strobel.

Liam and his friend Cole at Bailey's birthday party.

The champagne we had at Stefano's (thanks mom!).

Walking in the dunes.

Liam and his favorite past time -- playing in his sand/water table.
